After discovering the secret of immortality, among many others, Paracelsus faked his own death and began to travel around the world, increasing his knowledge. As soon as the centennial alchemist saw Preston, he knew that the veteran was innocent, so he decided to help him, transferring his vast knowledge to him and giving him a magic cloak with which Joseph would become Captain Wizard. After clearing his name, Captain Preston, with the invaluable help of his assistant, Baldwin "Baldy" Bean, set about fighting super threats, primarily of mystical origin, for which he was uniquely gifted. The Captain has collaborated with the FIXERS, and although he is not an official member, for all practical purposes he is considered a de facto member of the team.
