As one of his Twelve Legendary Works, the demigod Heracles steals Queen Hippolyta's Magic Belt and Theseus kidnaps Hippolyta's sister Antiope, takes her to Athens and makes her his wife. In retaliation, the Amazons commanded by Queen Hippolyta, invade Greece, loot some cities along the Attica coast, and lay siege to Athens. Unfortunately for them, they were rejected and persecuted until the last one of them was exterminated. However, Hades, impressed by the bravery of Hippolyta, decided to bring her back to life and make her his herald.
