"I wear red. I don't want to hide in the dark. I want them to see me coming. I want them to feel that shiver when they know who is coming for them..."
William Straight was a wealthy heir who excelled as an athlete in college (boxing, wrestling, and athletics, primarily) and was the first of his class to graduate as a lawyer. After college, he began a successful career in a law firm that he abandoned to become the youngest judge in his state. As a judge, he stood out for following the letter of the law with spartan rigor. However, this changed the day he sent an innocent man to death row. The demon of doubt and guilt kept him awake every night and finally he decided to investigate the case himself. Gang leader Bull Brewster had been killed during a costume party and the murder weapon was found at the home of Joe Morisi, Brewster's lieutenant.
Morisi's wife cried out for his innocence, but with the book in hand, everything seemed to indicate that he was guilty of the crime. Straight, impersonating a bank robber named Frank Full, infiltrated Brewster's gang, now led by Eel Stuard. William found incriminating evidence against Stuard, but instead of taking it to the police, he decided to confront Stuard dressed in a demon costume similar to the one Brewster wore when he was murdered. Eel Stuard, terrified believing that Straight was a revived Brewster, confessed and was taken under police custody. Judge Straight continued sentencing strictly in accordance with the book, leaving the Demon Knight each night to balance the scales of Justice.
POWERS & WEAPONS
The Demon Knight had no powers, but he was a fierce fighter and maintained exceptional physical condition. He operated from a secret lair, a grotto below the Straight mansion ("affectionately" nicknamed as "the Pit"). The Demon drove the "Devilbird", an improved '57 Ford T-Bird. Straight enlisted the help of his butler, Reginald Hawkins, and was indecently rich...
