Roger Parsons' parents died when the balloon they were traveling in crashed after being shot at by Braddock's men. Professor Paul Parsons had developed a revolutionary gas and he and his wife were murdered to steal the secret formula for said gas. However, the Parsons' baby, still alive, was saved by an old gold prospector, Nugget Ned, who raised him as if he were his own son. The boy grew up healthy, strong and highly skilled in all types of athletic activities, particularly archery. Despite his appearance and way of life, the old man was actually so rich that he made gold arrowheads for the boy. On his deathbed, Ned confessed to Roger his true origins and the fatal fate of his parents at the hands of Braddock's men. Using his signature weapon, Roger dealt with the Braddocks and then he and his horse, White Wind, embarked on a heroic race. The people of the Wild West would know him as the Golden Arrow.
