In the mid-19th century, the Brandt family were traveling on a stagecoach when they were assaulted by outlaws. Mr. and Mrs. Brandt were killed, but their son, Peter, managed to escape, being swept away by a river that took him to the Lost Valley region. The boy was rescued from drowning by a ghostly-looking wild stallion. When he woke up he was in the care of Lenny Cole, an old trapper who became his adoptive father and who taught him to defend himself and survive in the harsh and wild American West. And he also explained the old Indian legend about the Ghost Stalion... Years later, after the old man's death, the wild stallion reappeared before Peter and let him know that it was his destiny to become the Pale Rider, the avenger of the prairie.
