Fā Zhǔyào was a student in the same Tibet lamasery where John Aman, the future Green Mist, was raised and trained. When the Council of Seven decided to train Aman, Zhǔyào saw it as an offense for a Westerner to receive the sacred knowledge. Over the years their rivalry grew, until John finally exposed his true evil nature and the rebellious monk was expelled from the lamasery. Zhǔyào used the knowledge and skills gained during his training to amass power, becoming a ruthless crime lord known as The Great Question. When Aman was 25 years old, the Council of Seven ended his training and sent him back to the world to fight evil. The Great Question was waiting for him and from then on he tried to finish off Aman, usually sending hitmen against him, though always with little success. On one occasion, Zhǔyào used his hypnotic powers to unleash Aman's dark side, temporarily turning him into a villain (proving how dangerous the ability to turn to mist could be in evil hands). But John was finally able to free himself from the influence of The Great Question and return to his true self. The Council of Seven then ordered Aman to return to Tibet and undergo a purification process that purged all negative impulses from him. The Great Question attempted to corrupt Aman once more, but with no negative emotions to release, Zhǔyào's attempt had no effect.
POWERS & WEAPONS
Thanks to the training received in the lamasery, Zhǔyào was able to project his mind around the world (something similar to astral projection) and impose his will on the minds of others that were not strong enough to withstand his hypnotic power. He also possessed incredible control of his body and knowledge of superior martial arts, which made him a terrible opponent, even though he rarely came into conflict directly. As The Great Question, Zhǔyào possessed the vast resources of a great global criminal organization.
