Mr. Scrooge was a cold-hearted, miserly businessman. Despite possessing a considerable personal fortune, he underpaid his employees and viciously harassed his debtors while he himself lived miserably and joylessly in the rooms of his late business partner, Jacob Marley. His redemption came at the hands of three spirits: the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and the Ghost of Christmas Future. The three spirits showed Scrooge the errors of his ways, and he became a better and more generous man, to the point of becoming the creator and patron of the Knights of Mystery, a group of most extraordinary individuals committed to doing good and defending the weak.
