Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin, nicknamed the "Mad Monk", was a Russian mystic and advisor to Tsar Nicholas II. Son of a Siberian peasant family, his life was like anyone else's until one day, for some reason, he became a pilgrim. In his wanderings he accumulated wisdom and knowledge. His fame as a wise man attracted a group of disciples. His name grew more and more, until it caught the attention of Tsar Nicholas, whose son suffered from a serious blood condition. Rasputin made the infant's health improve and this earned him the favor of the Tsar. In fact, Rasputin's influence on the Russian royal family became great and notorious, and he always flaunted it. For the Mad Monk, Nicholas II's family were mere puppets in his hands. Although Rasputin posed as a Christian, he was actually a scholar of the arcane arts with no specific affiliation. Any ritual or incantation that served his purpose was valid for him, no matter what deity or demon he had to invoke. His circle of followers celebrated orgiastic rituals where alcohol and other psychotropic substances were consumed. Grigori was murdered on December 30, 19016. He was shot, beaten, stabbed, poisoned and finally drowned. The tsar's doctor performed an autopsy and he was buried, but a short time later the tomb appeared empty. The matter was covered up by faking a supposed cremation. The Monarchy fell just a year later and the Romanov family was massacred. Rasputin has lived in the shadows ever since, accumulating even more power and arcane knowledge, expanding his influence throughout the world.
