Suzi-Q is actually He Xiangu, one of the Eight Immortals in Taoist mythology. When she was about 14 or 15, a divine figure appeared to her in a dream and instructed her to eat powdered mica so that her body might become immune from death. She did as instructed, vowed to remain a virgin, and gradually decreased aging. She lived her endless existence without meddling in the affairs of mortals, but during the Korean War, she and a young American Air Force pilot (Captain William Breed) fell head over heels in love. When he was struck down in combat and died, she decided to start using her gifts to make the world a better place, thus honoring the memory of her loved one.
