Dr. Thomas Franklin, a psychologist, learned the ability to transfer his mind to lower life forms such as a parrot, a zoo gorilla, or a dog. He used this power to solve crimes and catch criminals. He had the invaluable collaboration of his assistant Wun, who watched over his human body while he was inside an animal. It was Wun who started calling him Dr. Zoo, for obvious reasons.
Dr. Zoo joined other heroes under the leadership of an immortal from ancient Atlantis named Jon.
The other members of the team were Del Van Dyne Jr. (leader of the top-secret government team known as the Doom Patrol), Deep Sea Dawson (internationally renowned diver and oceanographer), Steve Svenson (leader of the Sand Hogs), Entomo (who can duplicate the powers of any insect), Alani (sovereign and protector of the Vanishing Isles), and Flip Falcon (the tetra-dimensional traveler). Together they formed The Ghost Guard!
POWERS & WEAPONS
When Dr. Thomas Franklin makes eye contact with a creature from the animal kingdom, he can insert his mind into the animal's body and control its motor functions. Franklin's body is then left in a catatonic trance state in which he is very vulnerable (hence the importance of Wun). Dr. Franklin is able to pass from one animal body to another without having to pass through his human body first.
