HISTORY 

Mark Horley was a biochemist and criminologist whose great intellect and excess of ego led him to experiment with his own psyche trying to suppress the darkest and most aggressive part of the human personality (the Id according to Sigmund Freud's theories). But instead of that what happened was that his personality split: 

By day he continued to be the attractive, charismatic and successful criminologist Mark Horley, but every night he underwent a transformation not only mentally, but also physically, which turned him into a brutal creature, vicious and criminal, whom the news dubbed "The Monster of Manhattan". Young New York hero Black Hood discovered Horley's double life and confronted the Monster, but it took the help of the entire Tyro Team to stop the threat. 

POWERS & WEAPONS 

When Mark Horley transforms into the Monster of Manhattan, his body increases in size, becoming inhumanly strong and resilient. His healing factor also increases exponentially, making him able to heal from any wound in a very short time. Unfortunately, the transformation also heightens Horley's most primal instincts, turning him into a very dangerous creature of pure desire and aggressiveness.

Barbara Sutton

HISTORY 

Barbara Sutton was a high society girl, who became a freelance photographer so she could cover the news and help young African-American hero Da Hood as his confidant. After she confessed to Kip that she knew his secret identity, they became an official couple. Barbara created her own secret identity (Thumbelina) to accompany Kip on his adventures in a more direct way, and the two joined the young heroes of the Tyro Team for a while. Later, when Kip retired from superhero life, they opened their own detective agency and got married. 

POWERS & WEAPONS 

Barbara received judo and karate classes and knew how to handle a fight with one or more opponents. She was also familiar with firearms, although she prefered not to use them. 

Barbara got molecular reduction technology, thanks to which she was able to shrink at will. By shrinking, she maintained her original strength and the more she decreased, the more resistant to damage she was, becoming a living bullet.

HISTORY 

Kip Burland was a rookie NYPD officer who was charged with a crime he did not commit. Wanted by his own companions, Kip tried to clear his name by finding who had framed him, but they turned out to be a gang of corrupt cops who shot him and left him for dead. Burland was found by an elderly homeless man living in an abandoned subway tunnel. The old man took care of his injuries and, after hearing Kip's story, decided to help him get his life back. After months of hard training, Burland assumed the personality of Black Hood and caught the corrupt cops, managing to clear his name and being re-admitted to the police force. Kip had a girlfriend, Barbara Sutton, who worked as a reporter. Barbara became the super-heroine known as Thumbelina to help the Black Hood. For a time, Kip and Barbara shared adventures with the Tyro Team. Kip continued fighting crime as the Black Hood and as a cop until a criminal unmasked him. After losing his secret identity, Burland hung up the hood, left the police, married Barbara, and the two started a successful detective agency.
