After leaving the Navy through the back door, Mason "Deep Sea" Dawson became an internationally renowned deep-sea diver and oceanographer. Equipped with a specialized diving helmet, Dawson explored the wonders of the ocean and investigated its mysteries. During his adventures, Dawson encountered numerous underwater races, both hostile and friendly. He had an animal companion named Battler, who was a trained seal saved from poachers. Deep Sea later joined Del Van Dyne Jr. (leader of the top-secret government team known as the Death Patrol), Steve Svenson (leader of the Sand Hogs), Entomo (who can take on the powers of any insect), Alani (sovereign and protector of the Vanishing Islands), Dr. Zoo (the master of the animal kingdom), Flip Falcon (the tetra-dimensional traveler) and Jon (the immortal lover from ancient Atlantis) to form the Ghost Guard.
POWERS & WEAPONS
Dawson was a master swimmer and deep sea diver. His equipment was made up of flippers, a wetsuit and the jewel in the crown, his special diving helmet capable of obtaining oxygen from the water and which also provided Deep Sea with an additional means of propulsion (magnetohydrodynamic). Mason also used to carry a knife and sometimes a speargun.
