John Miracle was known as Dr. Miracle, the Master of Magic, a famous mentalist who possessed great magical powers and also used them to fight crime.
Miracle had a fellow adventurer, the herculean African prince Akeem Elmalik, who contracted a debt of honor upon being saved by Miracle (actually a debt already paid, but Kareem was happy with his adventurous life and did not want to take on his responsibility as a prince). Miracle and Akeem traveled to the planet Gormon with Flint Baker, Gale Allen, and Guy Schwimmer to free it from the tyranny of Blaga Daru and prevent it from conquering Earth. After liberation, back on Earth, John took care of Tigress, Guy Schwimmer's feline pet (the Raider died heroicaly during the rebelion).

His magical powers included, but were not limited to, telekinesis, the ability to levitate, the ability to master fire, the ability to walk through solid walls, and the ability to cast illusions (which he often used to disguise himself or others). John was not omniscient, but he was a very good detective.
