In the early 1940s, while working in his research laboratory, Professor John Dickering discovered a gas that had 50 times the energy potential of hydrogen. Inspired by the exploits of other costumed heroes, Professor Dickering designs a super powerful costume fueled by this gas and adopts the superhero identity of Comet Man to fight crime. His girlfriend, reporter Thelma Gordon, covers the adventures of Comet Man, making him one of the most popular heroes of his day. Sadly, his career as a masked hero came to an end when he was killed while trying to save the life of his brother Robert. To avenge the death of his brother, Bob Dickering became the second Comet Man.
The Comet Man's suit gave him the ability to fly, emit energy blasts, and was also capable of generating force shields.
